“And he waits, waits for his love every night, stubborn like a child,
sleepless like an old man, until dawn.
All the winter dawns until one night, desperate, tired, he closes the shutters and falls asleep,
and she comes…
Her heels echo in the deserted nighttime neighborhood, she calls him, as promised,
she waits for him at the intersection of all possible destinies, but he sleeps…

Dino Buzzati
Dino Buzzati-Traverso (14 October 1906 – 28 January 1972) was an Italian novelist, short story writer, painter and poet, as well as a journalist for Corriere della Sera. His worldwide fame is mostly due to his novel The Tartar Steppe, although he is also known for his well-received collections of short stories.
Dino Buzzati was an author of a large number of surreal and fantastic novels and stories, so much so that he is defined as the “Italian Kafka“, he is considered one of the greatest fantastic writers of the Italian twentieth century.
